Why Have the Queensland Bikie Laws Caused So Much Protest

Recent legislation passed in Queensland targets motorcycle gangs in a bid to prevent the violence and organised criminal activity associated with some bikie gangs. While many support the sentiment of the laws to minimise illegal behaviour, the legislation has come under a lot of fire. A high court challenge is planned against the laws and over a thousand people have already met in protest around Australia. The Queensland bikie laws have been scrutinised because of the broad nature of the legislation, the lack of consultation over the laws and fears they may victimise motorcycle riders.
